Orange Rolls

Homemade orange rolls are filled with a buttery orange filling and topped with an orange frosting. They can be prepared the night before if needed. This recipe makes 1 dozen.

Equipment

  • mixer with a dough hook

Ingredients

  • 1 C warm milk about 112°
  • 1/3 C soft butter
  • 1/2 C sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 1/2 tsp instant yeast
  • 4 1/2 C flour you can use part bread four
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  • Mix ingredients and knead for 5 minutes. Zest 3 oranges and add to 3/4 C sugar. Roll dough to form a rectangle about 12″x14″. Use 1/3 C soft butter and spread on to dough rectangle. Sprinkle on orange sugar mixture. Roll up and slice into 12 rolls. Place in a 9×13 baking dish sprayed with non stick spray. Let rise until puffy, no necessarily doubled. bake at 350° for 20 minutes until golden brown. Make frosting using about 1 tsp orange zest, a bit of soft butter, and the juice of the orange with powdered sugar until desired consistency. Frost while hot and enjoy an orange roll with coffee, tea, or milk. Store in an airtight container. You can also freeze individual rolls if desired.
